Suitable for Recreational Kiting • Kite Surfing

The beach at Cnip is a relatively narrow strip of sand, stretching for around 1,500 metres. The sand is very soft on the upper, level section of beach, but becomes firm to hard lower down. When I was there the sand was super smooth. There is a definite slope to the beach below the high water line.

The beach curves from northeast at the east end to more west at the east end (does that make sense?), so is usable for buggying/boarding in North to Northeasterly on shore winds and would probably be ok for similar off shore winds (south to south westerly), although to use the hard strip lower down your kite would be over water. At low tide there is sufficient beach to allow buggying.

Access to the beach is through the campsite and over a small stream/lagoon. Someone had helpfully placed a plank across it, but expect wet feet.

There is a community campsite right at the back of the beach, run by Cnip Common Grazing. The campsite is basically an area of common grazing land, with a toilet/shower block and a couple of public toilets. Showers are on meters and cost a pound. There are no electric hookups and much of the ground is slopes is multiple directions, though there are some leveller areas. Contact the site manager before pitching, phone number is on the wall of the toilet block. Uuige community shop is the nearest shop for basic stuff (approx. 5 miles) and there are no pubs/hotels nearby, but with views like this from your tent/camper, who needs them. Fees were £7 per head when I was there. Worth every penny for the views.
