Well at least that's something. Guess we'll just have to wait and see how the new arrangements work.
Don't think I'll be up this weekend, so will see next time.

The grass isnt actually the kite zone, the kite zone is only the beach. This was made clear to us today by Robbie.
O.
Accept that the grass isn't the kite zone. In my brief time as a kiter, I have hopefully respected the rules of the kite zone and try to avoid using the grass area, but it is useful for setting up/packing away to avoid getting sand in the van. Seeing people flying/freestyling and even buggying on the grass annoys me as it risks all our access permission.
I think we should all just wait and see what is said at the meeting. This is just a proposal at this stage and nothing set in stone so we should all just sit back and if you are able to attend the meeting then great.
O.
Unfortunately, I don't think it is just a proposal. The gate has been installed, the track tarmac'd at a width that is only suitable for a cycletrack AND it has been announce on the Fife Council website that the dunes are to be allowed to expand in land and vehicle access to be prevented (see my previous link)
I know you guys have worked hard to maintain the kite zone and worked closely with the council, it's just a shame they haven't consulted on their plans previously.

I have removed my last post as I do not want a thread about such a serious topic turning into a platform for personal insults and I apologyse if my post started this off.
I will continue to share, on this thread, any further information I receive on the proposal and hope that it has a good outcome for the whole kiting community.

Roors , I'm a bit surprised that you get annoyed at people using the grass and I'm not having a go at you here.
I have been visiting St Andrews for a good few years now and not one person has told me not to use the grass. In fact, most people use(d) the grass when the tide came in.
Perhaps I should have taken the time to find out the do's and dont's but as the grassy area was always in use whenever I visited then I just assumed it was OK.

Likewise, from attending st Andrews on occasion I have just assumed that use of the beach meant the sand and the grassy area above that. If these proposals go ahead though I will make sure to update myself on the new rules so we don't break them on future visits....

Mmmm .... maybe the wrong choice of words on my part, being a Newbie type, I guess I'm very conscious that I'm not breaking any rules. Maybe 'irked' is a better word for it, but again being a newbie I don't feel I have the authority to inform other about the does and don't (as I've been told of them). No offence intended to any that use the grass.
Group Hug anyone..... This image is hidden for guests. Please login or register to see it.

Sorry Roors, what I meant was that I was surprised that you knew that any kiting activities were not allowed on the grass. I just worded it wrong....oops. I do like a good group hug though

“ erosion at a former landfill site “
Can anyone else see the irony here. The suggestion that a former landfill site which would have originally screwed the area big time, that I am sure was just filled in before people like us started to use it. Is now the subject of dune erosion concern.
As far as I can see ST A’s has just lost a very big advantage it has always had and that's access. How long before the council realise that everyone going down the slipway will make it a little deeper ( its just sand is it not ).
Anyway be a nice walk with all our kit much like largo now lol, but with more people and a lumpy westerly. Joy!
