I all I'm john my local beachie is pettycur bay Kinghorn, I've got a 1.4 Beamer, 4m Beamer and a 2.5 pansh and a mountain board I'm determined to get riding fully come he'll or high water! Any tips from anyone who's tried this without the benefits of a depowerable kite or bar are really welcome!!!

As an experienced kiter / buggyer but novice (i.e never landboarded more than 20 yards without falling off) I would say that your best to learn when the kite is fairly powered up, to the extent that it has enough constant pull to lean against when boarding. It's hard to keep balance otherwise and you tend to end up snaking your way along the beach (from my limited experience). However don't go out so over powered that you do something silly with the kite and get dragged all over the place. Flying the kite without lookking etc is natural to me now for the time i've been doing it so I could get away with the stronger winds and small kite thing but if you dont feel comfy with that then don't risk it....

Im more than certain other people will either add to what im saying or tell me im wrong. If they tell me I'm wrong believe THEM not me cos I hardly have any experience with boarding.

P.S Welcome to the forum!!

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Pettycur is a beach I have used quite a bit but it is limited to the wind direction it can take. Basically anything with south in it can be used but forget it if there is any north in it. Its just too gusty and dangerous.

Learning to landboard.

Start with the board sitting approx 2'o'clock, with 12'o'clock being in the direction of the wind.
Get the kite above your head, then put your back foot on to the board. Then your front foot.
Now gradually bring the kite in to the power by pulling on your left or right hand (depending on the direction of the board)
Once you start moving, lean back on your heals so that your back and the wheels are running side on to the wind.
When you want to stop slowly take the kite back up above your head and lean back on your heels again, basically you want to be moving in a arch from A to B.
Hard to explain in text but if you are ever up at St Andrews pop over to the TK van and I would be happy to show you what I mean.
